So this is the story of this quilt, information about the fabric can be found on my previous post, and don't you love the backing (well, I do) it is a great Alexander Henry print "This Land is Your Land." Last but not least, I decided to enter this "non-traditional" quilt In Amy's Creative Side Blogger's Quilt Festival (at the very last moment, which is also seeming to be a bad habit of mine lately!) I decided to enter this morning, simply because if it wasn't for Amy's great tutorials, I wouldn't have wonderful corners on this great wall hanging! I am aware that this simple quilt does not compare to some of the beautiful artwork created by the hundreds of other entries, but being able to enter this quilt festival reminds me of years past when my mom would enter all her beautiful quilts in the local quilt festival and come home with tons of pretty, big blue ribbons. See the end of this post for another button link to the quilt festival. Thanks for sharing in my little adventure!
Here it is! In my previous post you can see this baby in "construction mode," but now it is done. This wall hanging was created for my little boy (big ole' toddler) to hang in his room, to update things a little bit and have some decorations that aren't so "baby" anymore. I am really pleased at how it turned out. This is not my first quilt, by any means, but this quilt does feature two new things that I have never done before. First, this quilt was quilted with embroidery floss (because it is a wall hanging for decoration and not washed frequently) 4 strands to be precise, and I used around 10 different colors of embroidery floss. I quilted it with a 1/4" stitch (yes, I know, it wasn't perfect...I wanted it that way) and I had never done that before. The second thing that was new to me was....Mitered Corners! I had tried before on previous quilts, but always ended up abandoning it. This time was different...I found Amy's Creative Side a great website that has some wonderful tutorials...and two of those tutorials helped me to accomplish mitered corners! See the last two photos to see my results! I was quite pleased, I just wished that I had discovered the tutorials before I pieced the blue strips right next to the binding...it looks a little funky...oh well, not everything is perfect (my recent motto.) The other tutorial was hand stitching a binding, which I had done before, but this tutorial showed me how to do the corners...and the most wonderful thing in the world...using binding clips instead of pins. Why is this so wonderful? When you use pins, they end up poking you the entire time you are trying to work (super annoying) plus, they tend to fall out. It is also wonderful, because when you have a small child, the last thing you want is for him to play with, pull out, and get poked with the pins, and God forbid eat one. The clips worked wonderfully, I had some unused hair clips (basically the same thing) and I am a believer, I will never use pins again! I thought it was quicker too!

I love that you used embroidery floss to quilt this. I have been thinking about doing that myself, but I'll have to wait for a smaller project to hand quilt. Great work! I love the panel!

What a great quilt to hang in your little one's room! It is so bright and lots to look at. I have so many unfinished projects...hopefully, I can get some of mine completed before any future grandbabies start coming!

This is such a sweet quilt. Love all the alphabet aspects! It's perfect! I dream of making a quilt but never even get to the construction mode.
