WIP Wednesday - August 10

Yesterday I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but thankfully today I apparently woke up on the right side of the bed, in a great mood and ready to accomplish things (even if it is only the laundry!)  I have been a little (or a lot) lax on my WIP Wednesday's lately, and I am pretty sure that I have decided to either just do them one or twice a month from now on.  I don't need any more pressure or stress than I already have, and honestly I just can't get things accomplished like before my preggo days!  That being said, here is what I have been up to during the last few weeks:

I finished a lovely pinwheel star for "time2sew" in the Quilting newBEES group.  I had a lot of fun making this block and it went together really quickly!  Though, it does look rather wrinkly, which isn't cool.

I finally finished my Kaleidoscope quilt top!  Hallelujah!  I wasn't in love with this one, honestly, but now seeing it hanging from one of our oak trees and being able to "step back" I do like it a lot more, and it is my favorite colors! Now I just need to get a back together for it!  I may set aside this project for a while and work on other things.....

I was also able to finish up a few projects hanging over my head:

Always Bee Learning - July's Block for [dreamfctry}
I don't know about you, but I've had quite the productive week!  I am finally caught up on all my bee blocks! Yippee!  All my Kaleidoscope blocks are sewn up, and I have parted ways with a huge box of fabrics for trading!

Bek [dreamfctry} ended up in two of my bees, she had July in both, and chose paper piecing in both bees.  The top photo is a design from Quilter's Cache, and the bottom two blocks are of her own design, so cool!  This was my first time paper piecing, and after getting the hang of it, I think I love it.  These are the most precise blocks I have made yet!  Don't get me wrong, I love paper piecing, but good gosh it is time consuming.  Way more than I would have ever thought.

I finished packing up my box of swap fabrics for the Stashtacular! Swap, and have sent them off!  It feels good to clear out some fabric I know I won't use!

As of last night, I finished up all 30 of the blocks for my Kaleidoscope Quilt.  All I have to do is sew the top together!  I was pleasantly surprised at how well my points matched up (not perfect, but good enough for me!) and how flat they actually did lay.  Can't wait to see what this quilt top looks like all sewn together!

I added a few more projects to my ever growing list, and have come to the realization that I will never be "finished" with my works in progress.  Oh well, I'm OK with that.  Well folks, that about wraps up my week.  How was yours?

WIP Wednesday - Week 19?

7/13/2011

Hello everybody!  Did anyone miss me on WIP Wednesday?  I've been absent for about a month now!  Oh goodness!  I wish I could say that it has been a super productive month, but alas, from vacations and summer activities, the work just hasn't happened.  Oh well.

I spent about a week getting bundles of fabric together to mail to two of my online Quilting Bees (this process took WAY longer than I ever thought it would!)  They are mailed out, and I am slowly getting blocks back in the mail.  It is so neat to see what others will create for you!

I finished some Bee Blocks for others, one early, and one super late.  The first one for CNSnow was the early one, a fun improv block that whipped up so quickly and is a LARGE block measuring in at 16.5" x 16.5"!  The second set for prsd4tim2 will be what I consider a bee fail on my part.  This has nothing to do with construction, the construction of the blocks is fine, but rather my dissatisfaction with trying to translate what was in my head to fabric!  Oh and the fact that I sent these blocks about 2 weeks late....boo! on my part, and I am sorry about that.  The first block, though cute reminds me of Smurf houses, with a huge off-scale snowman who apparently is the evil over-lord in the village.  A bit creepier than I intended.  The second block was supposed to be a simple house highlighted by two candy cane columns, but instead just appears to be a Chinese Food Restaurant, and don't even lie to me, you know it looks like that.  All it needs is a sign that says "Golden Wok."  I just hope she doesn't hate them!

No real finishes, though I have made quite some progress in my fabric organization, and can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel!  My one new project is the Kaleidoscope Quilt-Along hosted by Don't Call Me Betsy.  All my pieces are cut, all my hst are sewn on, and the real piecing has started.  I actually put together two blocks last night and was pleasantly surprised at how flat they laid, and miraculously the inside points lined up pretty darn good, if I do say so myself!  Pictures to come at a later point!

Well folks, that about sums it up!  Here is to a productive and new crafty week!

WIP Wednesday - Week 18

Wednesday again?  It seems to come sooner and sooner....  I was on vacation for the majority of this past week, so I'll keep it short, since I didn't accomplish much! Which is a good thing sometimes.  We all need a break once in a while!

I finished bee blocks for "justabitfrayed" in the Always Bee Learning Quilt Bee.  She sent us Anna Maria Horner's new line of fabrics louLOUthi, and we all did Quilt As You Go blocks for her.  I made her two, and am quite pleased at how pretty these blocks are!  They are trimmed to 12.5" x 12.5" and ready for her to put them together, no quilting needed!  I included a back shot, since so many have asked how the back looks using this method.  When sewing I left the back tails long, and then once I was completed, I threaded each tail on a needle and wove the thread back in, came up and trimmed it, this way the ends are "more complete!"  I hope she likes them!

That is it folks, I told you I would keep it short and simple!

WIP Wednesday - Week 17

Happy Wednesday!  Did you have a productive week?  I guess I did, though I'm not really sure the definition of productive anymore.  I made quite a few bee blocks, and some I haven't even taken photos of yet!  I also finished my pillow case carried over from my box of projects last week, but alas I'll have to share photos of it another time also.  Be on the lookout for it though, it is pretty funky!

My first bee block is for the Christmas Fabric Bee, it's for "Julie @ DistantPickles."  She requested a non-wonky house.  Easy enough, I don't think this guy is wonky at all, though I will admit the "smoke" coming out of the chimney, doesn't resemble smoke as much as it looks like an alien is trying to beam someone out of the house!

I finished up my 10 depression blocks for the Scrapbuster Swap, all those hst were fun and I didn't have that much trouble lining up all those points as I thought I might!  Though I do find they all look very similar.....
"Kreated by Kari" is running that group swap and as a Thank you for all her hard work putting the thing together and shipping so many packages, I made for her a Mod Tree Block to go with a quilt that she is currently making.  I created something totally against the grain for me, and was really pleased with the way it turned out, I think it is Mod for sure!  You can see the photos of the block below!

Here's hoping you had a productive week, no matter how you define productivity!

A little departure from my normal schedule today to show you guys a little something different.  Have you ever wondered about this list in my Ongoing Projects?

A Box Full of Alterations and Random "Fix It" Projects.

Well today is the day that I will show you all what was in that box and get rid of that item in my Ongoing Projects!
Picture
I bought this fabulous purse, carried it for a week and the huge silver grommet fell off. So annoying! So I figured I could fix it....
Picture
I zig-zag stitched the circle opening, to seal the layers together, and thought I would try to work the grommet back on, holding it with glue.
Picture
Then I noticed the other side was coming undone also. So I got aggravated, and threw it in the "maybe I will do something later" pile. Maybe one day I will come back to this project.
Finished Projects:
Quilt Bee Blocks (Click HERE to see them)
Picture
Two shirts that needed new hems. I hated the elastic at the bottom, so I cut if off and sewed in a normal 1" hem. Sorry no finished pictured, but you get the idea!
Ongoing Projects:

Pillow Case

Other Random Projects: (These are not counted in my weekly stats!)
A Box Full of Alterations and Random "Fix It" Projects. (This will be GONE next week!)
Picture
I wore this shirt 2 times, only to have the elastic dry rot and basically stretch out 3 times the original length. Don't you just love when that happens!
Picture
I yanked out the old elastic and undid a bit of stitching and then just replaced the elastic (on the inside) and stitched it on, and then sealed the open side seams. Good as new!

Those were the six projects in that box!  Four are complete, and the other two are now on my project list!  It felt good to go through that box and knock some stuff out.  Now I can wear my shirts and necklace! Here's hoping you had a successful week too!

WIP Wednesday - Week 15

5/25/2011

It is Wednesday, and you know what that means! Time for some works in progress!

I finished up my Lisette Portfolio Tunic, I didn't change anything other than the neckline.  Instead of adding the neckband pieces, I just cut a long length of 2.25" bias fabric, and sewed it along the neckline, and then pretty much followed the rest of the directions,  I only used one button instead of two, and I like it much better this way.  Not so close to the throat!  I used Lisette fabric from JoAnn's Fabrics, and it has a great weight to it, so I honestly think it fits better than my muslin simply for this fact.  I put this baby together in just a few hours, making the muslin first really cut down on time, since I knew what I was doing this time (and I knew it would fit!)  I love the loud floral print.

I finished my two bee blocks for my quilting bee, Quilting NewBEES, these two are for "nora303", and are technically for June, but we got a head start.  And yes, these two blocks look identical, but I promise, I made two!  This was technically the first time I made half square triangles (gasp!)  Honestly I thought they were pretty easy, just so long as when you ironed them you didn't "stretch" the bias edges to much.  I think I spent just as much time cutting the fabric as I did sewing them up.  It was fun, and this was the first time I didn't seem to have any problem matching up those points, it is always nice when something just falls into place, it doesn't happen often enough!

No new projects, my list of wip stays the same, seems I am stuck in a stagnate rut.  Oh well, there is always next week!  Lastly, I finished this post with a flower from my yard, and to prove my non-green thumb-ness, I have no clue what it is!  Feel free to enlighten me.

One finish, and a lot of works in progress!  I finished my vintage sheet wreath and rosettes, I love it, so spring like and pretty!  I bought the kit from Ironsea and used the tutorial she created on her blog, In Color Order.  It was super easy, and instead of using tape like she suggested, I just used pins to stop and start each color and to hold on the rosettes.  I also used a 14" wreath form, and in order to cover it, I added two more lengths of vintage sheets to the kit.  It is now hanging on my front door!

Everything else this week are works in progress, still working on the next Lisette Portfolio Tunic.  Working on this months Christmas Fabric Bee quilt blocks, you can see a sneak peak below.  Also working on the scrappy depression blocks for the Scrapbuster Swap, you can see the 5" squares sewn together below!

That is it folks!  Here's hoping you had a productive week!

WIP Wednesday - Week 13

Happy Wednesday!  I was able to accomplish quite a bit this week, too bad most of it wasn't on my list!  First, I finished my Lisette Portfolio Tunic that was shown cut out last week.  Next, I finished my Amy Butler Style Stitches, Perfectly Pleated Clutch.  Lastly, I finished my Quilt Bee blocks, which wasn't on my list, and now all three Bees that I am in are lumped together as just Quilt Bees, and I guess that won't technically be finished until I am done with all three Bees, but as of this moment, I am caught up!

I started several new projects (is anyone surprised? No, I suspect not!)  I bought a lovely vintage sheet kit that makes up a super cute wreath, and then you can adorn it with things like fabric flowers. you can see my progress below.  I am halfway through my first fabric flower, and now I remember why I hate making those babies.  Needless to say, that one had several spots of blood hidden inside. Ouch!

I started pulling fabric for two of my Bees that my chosen month is quickly approaching (one in July and the other in August.)  The Christmas fabric below is what I will be using for the Christmas Fabric Bee, I have all that I need, except for the main fabric.  I am on the lookout for a great gold print and if anyone has an ideas, I would love to hear them!

It is Wednesday again! Oh, and I have pictures this week!  Aren't you glad?  Anyways....I finally finished my Advent Calender Quilt!  Yippee!  I have been working on this quilt since September, and I'm tired of it!  You are only getting the sneak peak photo below, because my intention is to enter it in the Blogger's Quilt Festival next week, and I don't want to share everything ahead of time!  I am super glad to have this project finished, and look forward to putting it up until Christmas!

I have one new project this week, May's bag for the Style Stitches Sew-Along, and I'm getting this one finished up early this month (I promise!)

I have been making my muslin (practice to make sure it fits) tunic using the Lisette Portfolio pattern, and hope to get this baby finished by Thursday!  Wish me luck!

As a last little add in for my partner in the Pretty {Little} Pouch Swap, I made her a small little needle book, to store all her needles!  I have one just like it and use it every day!
