City Sampler Blocks 49 - 54

I am at the point in which I start sharing my blocks out of order, just to be "caught up."  Hope you don't mind, these are the blocks from last week and this week.  My next post may be blocks from a few weeks ago, I just wanted to be in the present with these things!  I have through block #70 done, just not the time to blog about them, so I'll probably never show off just three, but always six, this way if you have no interest in this sort of thing, don't read these posts! HA!

These first three blocks, ughh...two of them made me pull out my hair.  I am hoping they are the hardest of the book and that they are now behind me.  Block #49 was simple enough, no complaints, though I will say that I did not enjoy this triangles chapter, just not very enjoyable and certainly more time consuming than all the other blocks made so far.  So then we move onto block #50.  The triangles were a breeze, but I unpicked those middle lines more than I care to admit, had puckers and ended with puckers.  I gave up and just let it be.  Then when I added the bottom and top rows, the middle section wasn't the right size, so they stick out, yuck, yuck, yuck.  And yep, I'm leaving it.  So I have one totally crap block in the quilt, oh well.  Then there was block #51, below, this one wasn't as bad, but I'm not going to lie, those flying geese are wonky as heck.  Stitched together it doesn't look so bad, but it is.  Moving on.  I do like my fabric choices for these blocks, so one positive.

The next three, blocks #52 - 54 were pretty simple, I had no major problems and I have points on my triangles, so that is all that matters, right?  I really like #54, one of my favorites for sure!

Dancing Stars

I started the day by culling through the hundreds of photographs of projects I have yet to share with you guys.  Not quite sure what to share, I remembered this little table runner and knew it was perfect for today.  It has a slight fall feel to it, which works out great because it is only slightly fall or not quite yet but here soon.  I finished up this top a while ago, but never got a chance to show it off.
Picture
This was part of the Dancing Stars Quilt-Along hosted by Amy's Creative Side earlier this year.  The Flickr group can be found HERE.  It was a relaxed Quilt-Along with no real deadlines, just sew at your own pace.  Thank goodness, I would have never kept up.  It took me forever to piece these paper pieced stars.  In the end I just made myself sit down and finish them.  This is when I discovered that I didn't like paper piecing the same thing over and over again, it drove me NUTS!  I only made a table runner, I can't imagine making a larger quilt, wowsers.
Picture
I used fabric completely from my stash for this one, and will share all of the details when I show off this baby completely finished.  Which, to be completely honest is all quilted, bound and ready to photograph.  It is part of my third quarter finish-along goals, so I better get some pictures taken!

Warning Yet Another Photo Intensive Post!!!
Slowly I am getting caught up, and I do apologize for boring you all with these blocks!  Here they are, 28-33.  No complaints this time, I really like all of these blocks, especially the first one below, number 28, super pleased with it!  Some of these blocks look wonky in the photographs, but they aren't, I just didn't capture them well enough in the photos (I should have flattened them better.)  So I will wrap things up quickly and wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Warning Photo Intensive Post!
Still playing catch up, but at least I am slowly chipping away at posting them! HA!  Here are blocks 22 - 27, I love all of them with the exception of number 25.  I think my fabric choices were wrong for this block, but I will leave it, it isn't horrible, just odd.  All of these blocks were easy to make, I think this chapter is probably the easiest in the book, just a bunch of straight lines and easy cuts.  So fun!  I actually love making these blocks, picking the fabric, putting it together, just so enjoyable.  A few more "catch up" posts and I will be officially caught up!  Fingers crossed!

City Sampler Blocks 16 - 21

Warning: Photo Intensive Post!
Ughhh....I'm playing catch up again, and the annoying part is that I have had these blocks completed for over a month, I just haven't had a chance to photograph or blog about them.  Oh well, I hope to spend this week catching up and getting current with showing off my blocks.  These blocks are the start of the second chapter, Rectangles.  All six of these blocks were fairly easy and straight forward.  I like them all equally with the exception of number 21, I think it had potential, but alas I am not too happy with that block.  I may redo it in the end, or leave it, we shall see.  Enough chitter-chatter, here are the blocks:

Finish-A-Long Quarter Three

7/11/2013

It is already the third quarter of the year, is anyone else depressed that the year is half way over.  *Huge Sigh*  Oh well, time to move on! I don't want to say that the second quarter was a bust, but it kinda was in terms of finishing things.  I believe I had high aspirations of 11 or 13 projects or something ridiculous like that, which obviously I didn't finish.  But....I did finish two.  I didn't link them up with the second quarter finish-a-long, simply because I haven't photographed them yet.  I finished two sets of pajamas for my boys and my Cosmic Burst Quilt.  I will post about them another time when the weather is right and the boys are behaving, so hopefully in the next three months! HA!  I was happy to at least cross two things off the list.

This quarter I am taking things a bit differently, instead of a long list, I am aiming for a smaller do-able one.  I actually finished up quite a few quilt tops last quarter and have all the backings put together too!  So here are my goals for quarter three:
Picture
Project One: Boom Boom Pow Quilt - This top is finished, the backing is finished.  I just have to baste, quilt and bind it.  This is a throw quilt that I plan to keep for myself!
Picture
Project Two: Dancing Stars Table Runner - The table runner top is finished and I have the backing ready to go.  The letters print will be the binding.  I need to baste it, quilt it and bind it.  This is to gift, but I don't have an intended recipient yet, I will just know when it is done, I'm sure.
Picture
Project Three:  Latticework Strings Quilt - This quilt top is finished and so is the backing.  I need to baste it, quilt it and bind it.  This is a throw quilt that also has no intended recipient, yet.
Picture
Project Four:  Emerald Cut Quilt - This odd sized wall hanging is all basted and ready to quilt.  This quilt will hang in my house when it is finished and will cover up a window that will be removed.  No rush, the window has not been removed, well not yet anyway!

Obviously, I will be doing a lot of quilting this quarter, but I have all of the supplies, so nothing should hold me up.  Linking up with Leanne at She Can Quilt and Never too hot to stitch! 2013 the Year of the Finished Project.

Here we are at the end of Chapter One.  Thus, the end of the "cross" blocks.  The number 14 block is a bit wonky, I guess those long skinny center strips are a bit off, but it isn't too bad.  Once again these three were straight forward and easy, oh and fun!  I used every print from the Constellations collection, with the exception of one in the first 15 blocks, and aim to try and distribute each of the prints through each chapter evenly.  I hope by doing so at the end I don't have a ton of blocks that look really similar, you know?  Well I better run, I've got to cut out next weeks blocks!

I am officially caught up!  You are probably sick of seeing blocks, so I promise this is my last City Sampler post this week!  These blocks were easy to make and really straight forward, but I will say that Block #12 is a tad wonky, if you really look that "cross" is a tiny bit twisted, but I decided to leave it, what does it matter in the grand scheme of things?  It doesn't!  These blocks are really fun to make and I am just tickled pink to be officially caught up!  Woo Hoo!

Quick pop in today to play a bit of catch up with my City Sampler blocks.  Today I am featuring blocks 4-9.  My favorite is number 9, I love those constellations.  I know this is a photo intensive post, sorry about that!  I have one more post to be officially "caught up" and then I'll hopefully be posting my three new blocks just once a week.

City Sampler 100 Modern Quilt Blocks

The book above, Tula Pink's City Sampler 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, is the focus of a new quilt along being hosted by Sara over at Sew Sweetness.  It officially started up a few weeks ago, but I just got started on it last week, which is ok, it has been easy to catch up.  I'm running a tad bit behind because it took me forever to lock in what fabrics I wanted to use, but now that I have decided, I'm off and running.  I'll be using Constellations by Lizzy House, you can see those print fabrics on the bottom row in the photo below.  Once I had officially chosen that fabric line, I dug into my stash and pulled as many solids from my collection that matched.  I actually had way more matching solids than I thought, so all I bought was Kona black and I am all set!
Picture
Blocks 1,2 and 3.  I love all the blues with the touch of yellow thrown in every now and then.  These three blocks were fairly straight forward to make, though I did have to unpick parts on each of these because I somehow reversed certain pieces.  Even with the mistakes I originally made, these blocks were still quick and easy.  They measure 6.5" x 6.5", so these pieces are pretty tiny, which I honestly think makes it even more fun and maybe a tad challenging.  I really love this fabric line, so that means I really love these blocks, the scale of the prints are all small scale, which is one of the reasons I chose these fabrics for the quilt along,  The few prints from this collection that are a tad bit larger, I make sure to save for fussy cutting.  You can see what I am talking about in Block #3, that cute center fabric, see how perfect that works out.  Love it!

Here are the first three blocks, shown a different way.  Featured next to the block in the book.  Obviously, my fabrics will be drastically different than the book, but I aiming to keep the same value of fabrics (or at least try to maintain the light, medium and dark tones.)

I am playing catch up, so I hope to show you guys blocks 4-12 at some point this week because I have them sewn, photographed and ready to show off!
