I bit the bullet and cut into my precious Macaroni Love Story by Heather Ross. I had a plan and a pattern for quite some time now, spent an enormous amount of time doing the math and changing the pattern a tad bit, but finally last night I cut it out! It felt good and rewarding. Can't wait to get stitching!
Having every intention of making this a wordless Wednesday, I quickly realized that it wasn't wordless when I promptly began typing. I guess I am unable to be wordless? Maybe it is because I don't have any adult interaction during the day! Oh well.... 9 Comments Here it is, my precious. Macaroni Love Story by Heather Ross, I've been hoarding it, and now it is time to cut it up, stitch it up, and then love it up! I've actually decided to join in two quilt-alongs at the same time (as if I don't have enough on going projects.) I think fate threw me head first into both of these quilt-alongs and that it is meant to be, so I'm going with it! The first is the My Precious QAL hosted by the lovely Kelly over at Kelby Sews. The second is the Cosmic Burst QAL hosted by the also lovely Julie over at Distant Pickles. Both of these quilt-alongs will result in one quilt, I will be using my precious fabric to make the Cosmic Burst quilt. I wont be killing myself to get it done by any certain deadline, but I do hope to get cutting soon. First, I have to decide on fabric placement and that is where I need your help. When you have fabric this precious, you don't just cut into it all willy-nilly...no YOU HAVE A PLAN. I have roughed up three fabric placement images, and I would love to know which of the three you like the best. Husband and I mutually agreed on one last night, but I would love to get your opinion too! Several things to keep in mind. The orange is going to be Patty Young's Creamsicle Stitch fabric, and the Gray is probably going to be Alexander Henry's Heath. Kind of undecided on the Heath as of right now, we shall see. The scale of the fabrics is a bit off also, (this is a rough layout) and keep in mind this quilt will measure 40" x 40" and will showcase these prints nicely. This quilt is one big block. Here we go: Linking up to WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced, this is my newest work in progress, and honestly what is the point in listing the 100 other on-going projects that you all have heard about over and over again. Heck, I'm tired of hearing about them too! Maybe from now on, I'll just feature one work in progress, we shall see. Thanks in advance for your help in choosing my layout. Wow, it has been almost three months since i have done a normal WIP post, and since I am still here, still huge and currently 37.5 weeks pregnant (full term, yippee!) I thought I would do a WIP roundup of sorts. Kind of a reminder to myself of all my current projects floating around my house that I will complete this year! And yes, I said it, I will complete these this year, or else! Just kidding, but seriously it is my New Years Resolution! 1. Block 1 QAL, 2. Block 2 QAL, 3. Block 3 QAL, 4. Block 4 QAL, 5. My normal WIP Wednesday list is on hiatus for while. Between the holidays and my due date (in January) I am just focusing on what needs to get done NOW. Instead I have decided to do a special edition Christmas WIP list! The list above shows the things that I would like to get done before Christmas, all of these are gifts. Honestly, in my head this list seemed a lot longer, so it really feels good to actually put pen to paper and write the list out. It doesn't seem so overwhelming now, which is really a good thing. Most of these items have not been started yet, but some are in the works, and others are in the "pulling fabric" stage, like the pillowcase below. Two of the items are on the "if it doesn't get done, that is ok" list. The bookbag is going to be for my son, and honestly if it doesn't get done, oh well. The other is the table runner I am considering making for my mother-in-law, once again, if I get it done, great, otherwise, maybe next year. The one project that I am smack dab in the middle of is the pirate blanket for my son. I am making a large 25" x 26" block (seen below) from the Modern Blocks book. It is almost finished (the water is laying down and is Heather Ross mermaids and fish.) I just have to add borders so that the finished size is closer to 36" x 40." I have not decided how to quilt this one yet (machine or hand) we shall see what time permits! Wish me luck on all my projects, I may need it! Congratulations to Lee! She has officially been hosting WIP Wednesday for one whole year now! Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on and a chance to win some great prizes! Miss me folks? It has been quite a while since I have participated in WIP Wednesday, I guess it has been because I am working on my own personal WIP...my bun in the oven! Don't get me wrong, I've been working on projects, just nothing on my WIP list, all new things, and most of those I recently finished up! So, this WIP Wednesday is really selfishly for me to take inventory of how many unfinished things I really have laying around, and what I need to just finish up! Like those projects that are 80% and 98% finished - just do it, for goodness sake! Speaking of my bun in the oven, for those of you whom I haven't shared our news with yet, we found out a few weeks ago that we are having a little boy! We are excited that our son will have a baby brother to pick on and someone to play "cars" with. The photo below was taken while we were on vacation in Destin, Florida a few weeks ago, so please excuse the frizzy hair and lack of make-up! I just wanted to show you guys my growing baby bump, and even in the two weeks since this photo was taken, I swear it seems to have doubled! Anyways.... on to my WIP rundown.... Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on! Yesterday I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but thankfully today I apparently woke up on the right side of the bed, in a great mood and ready to accomplish things (even if it is only the laundry!) I have been a little (or a lot) lax on my WIP Wednesday's lately, and I am pretty sure that I have decided to either just do them one or twice a month from now on. I don't need any more pressure or stress than I already have, and honestly I just can't get things accomplished like before my preggo days! That being said, here is what I have been up to during the last few weeks: I finished a lovely pinwheel star for "time2sew" in the Quilting newBEES group. I had a lot of fun making this block and it went together really quickly! Though, it does look rather wrinkly, which isn't cool. I finally finished my Kaleidoscope quilt top! Hallelujah! I wasn't in love with this one, honestly, but now seeing it hanging from one of our oak trees and being able to "step back" I do like it a lot more, and it is my favorite colors! Now I just need to get a back together for it! I may set aside this project for a while and work on other things..... I was also able to finish up a few projects hanging over my head: You can read about my Pretty {little} Pouch Finish HERE The Amy Butler Style Stitches Key Keeper/Coin Purse HERE And today is the last day to enter my current giveaway, to read about and enter to win the Amy Butler Style Stitches Teardrop Bag, click HERE. Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on! I don't know about you, but I've had quite the productive week! I am finally caught up on all my bee blocks! Yippee! All my Kaleidoscope blocks are sewn up, and I have parted ways with a huge box of fabrics for trading! Bek [dreamfctry} ended up in two of my bees, she had July in both, and chose paper piecing in both bees. The top photo is a design from Quilter's Cache, and the bottom two blocks are of her own design, so cool! This was my first time paper piecing, and after getting the hang of it, I think I love it. These are the most precise blocks I have made yet! Don't get me wrong, I love paper piecing, but good gosh it is time consuming. Way more than I would have ever thought. I finished packing up my box of swap fabrics for the Stashtacular! Swap, and have sent them off! It feels good to clear out some fabric I know I won't use! As of last night, I finished up all 30 of the blocks for my Kaleidoscope Quilt. All I have to do is sew the top together! I was pleasantly surprised at how well my points matched up (not perfect, but good enough for me!) and how flat they actually did lay. Can't wait to see what this quilt top looks like all sewn together! I added a few more projects to my ever growing list, and have come to the realization that I will never be "finished" with my works in progress. Oh well, I'm OK with that. Well folks, that about wraps up my week. How was yours? Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on! Hello everybody! Did anyone miss me on WIP Wednesday? I've been absent for about a month now! Oh goodness! I wish I could say that it has been a super productive month, but alas, from vacations and summer activities, the work just hasn't happened. Oh well. I spent about a week getting bundles of fabric together to mail to two of my online Quilting Bees (this process took WAY longer than I ever thought it would!) They are mailed out, and I am slowly getting blocks back in the mail. It is so neat to see what others will create for you! I finished some Bee Blocks for others, one early, and one super late. The first one for CNSnow was the early one, a fun improv block that whipped up so quickly and is a LARGE block measuring in at 16.5" x 16.5"! The second set for prsd4tim2 will be what I consider a bee fail on my part. This has nothing to do with construction, the construction of the blocks is fine, but rather my dissatisfaction with trying to translate what was in my head to fabric! Oh and the fact that I sent these blocks about 2 weeks late....boo! on my part, and I am sorry about that. The first block, though cute reminds me of Smurf houses, with a huge off-scale snowman who apparently is the evil over-lord in the village. A bit creepier than I intended. The second block was supposed to be a simple house highlighted by two candy cane columns, but instead just appears to be a Chinese Food Restaurant, and don't even lie to me, you know it looks like that. All it needs is a sign that says "Golden Wok." I just hope she doesn't hate them! No real finishes, though I have made quite some progress in my fabric organization, and can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel! My one new project is the Kaleidoscope Quilt-Along hosted by Don't Call Me Betsy. All my pieces are cut, all my hst are sewn on, and the real piecing has started. I actually put together two blocks last night and was pleasantly surprised at how flat they laid, and miraculously the inside points lined up pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! Pictures to come at a later point! Well folks, that about sums it up! Here is to a productive and new crafty week! Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on! Wednesday again? It seems to come sooner and sooner.... I was on vacation for the majority of this past week, so I'll keep it short, since I didn't accomplish much! Which is a good thing sometimes. We all need a break once in a while! I finished bee blocks for "justabitfrayed" in the Always Bee Learning Quilt Bee. She sent us Anna Maria Horner's new line of fabrics louLOUthi, and we all did Quilt As You Go blocks for her. I made her two, and am quite pleased at how pretty these blocks are! They are trimmed to 12.5" x 12.5" and ready for her to put them together, no quilting needed! I included a back shot, since so many have asked how the back looks using this method. When sewing I left the back tails long, and then once I was completed, I threaded each tail on a needle and wove the thread back in, came up and trimmed it, this way the ends are "more complete!" I hope she likes them! That is it folks, I told you I would keep it short and simple! Head over to Freshly Pieced to have a look at what everyone else is working on! Happy Wednesday! Did you have a productive week? I guess I did, though I'm not really sure the definition of productive anymore. I made quite a few bee blocks, and some I haven't even taken photos of yet! I also finished my pillow case carried over from my box of projects last week, but alas I'll have to share photos of it another time also. Be on the lookout for it though, it is pretty funky! My first bee block is for the Christmas Fabric Bee, it's for "Julie @ DistantPickles." She requested a non-wonky house. Easy enough, I don't think this guy is wonky at all, though I will admit the "smoke" coming out of the chimney, doesn't resemble smoke as much as it looks like an alien is trying to beam someone out of the house! I finished up my 10 depression blocks for the Scrapbuster Swap, all those hst were fun and I didn't have that much trouble lining up all those points as I thought I might! Though I do find they all look very similar..... "Kreated by Kari" is running that group swap and as a Thank you for all her hard work putting the thing together and shipping so many packages, I made for her a Mod Tree Block to go with a quilt that she is currently making. I created something totally against the grain for me, and was really pleased with the way it turned out, I think it is Mod for sure! You can see the photos of the block below! Here's hoping you had a productive week, no matter how you define productivity!
